Big Second Half Comeback Leads Men's Basketball Over Beavers

The Bucs erase a 17-point deficit to remain unbeaten at home

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. --  After a bumpy start, Barry Men's Basketball locked in for a huge second half to erase a once 17-point deficit against Bemidji State to take the win by three on Tuesday evening from the Health and Sports Center.

SUMMARY:

  • 1H - The game did not start out on the right foot and Barry fell in a 10-point hole five minutes into the contest. Gabe Hernandez led the way with nine points in the half. Barry cut the deficit from 17 to 12 by the half. | Bemidji State 39, Barry 27
  • 2H - The halftime speech from Coach Estes ignited a fire as a different Buc team came out of the locker room. The first bucket came off a Beaver turnover that had Jimel Lane put in the fastbreak layup. With 14:07 on the clock, the tide started to shift as Michael Bradley III hit back-to-back three-pointers to start chipping away. A 21-9 run over a nine and half minute span gave Barry their first lead of the game at 62-61 with four and half minutes remaining. For the next minute both teams traded the lead and had the game tied twice. Lane hit mid-range jumper to make it a three-point game, forcing BSU into taking deeper shots that did not fall. NOTEWORTHY:

  • Barry outscored Bemidji State by 15 in the second half to seal the comeback win.
  • The Bucs remain clean at home currently at 2-0.
  • Akeem Cradon's paint presence on both sides of the floor played a huge role in the win. Crandon collected his first double-double as a Buc with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and added four blocks.
  • Gabe Hernandez led all scorers with 21 points, 12 coming in the second half. He added six rebounds and seven assists.
  • Jimel Lane was the other Buc who had double-figures with 13 points.
  • Bradley led the bench once again with eight clutch points.
  • Barry shot 48-percent from the field going 40-percent from behind the arc. 
  • The defense won the game on the board with a 40-32 advantage, 
  • Barry led in fastbreak points 15-7, blocks 5-0, and assists 2-16.

ON THE HORIZON:
The Bucs will come back after the holiday to take on Florida National, tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m. from the Health & Sports Center.
