MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry men's soccer team swamped the Florida National Conquistadors 5-0 on Senior Night at Buccaneer Field in a non-conference game shortened by rain.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP
Final: Barry 5, Florida National 0
Records: Barry (4-8-2), FNU  (4-7-2)
All-Time Series: Barry leads 2-0-1

SUMMARY:

  • 4:00 - Barry got on the board in the fourth minute as seniors Juan Simoniello and Oier Calvillo combined on the goal. Simoniello found Calvillo loose at the edge of the six-yard box and Calvillo went into the top corner of the goal to brek the ice. | Barry 1, FNU 0
  • 18:05 - In the 19th minute, Calvillo set up the second goal, feeding João Domenici for the header over FNU keeper Lucas Pereira Silva | Barry 2, FNU 0
  • 20:35 - Just two and a half minutes later, Calvillo again set up a goal, hitting a strike off the crossbar that bounded down to Stepan Maltsev who hammered the rebound for the goal. | Barry 3, FNU 0
  • 44:52 - Barry got one final goal in the first half as the clock ticked down. It was Calvillo again, this time crossing it in from the right side into a scrum at the corner of the far side of the six-yard box. Juan Valiente headed it down and Joram Bogers finished the score with a header with just eight ticks left on the clock. | Barry 4, FNU 0
  • 62:24 - The second half was played in a heavy rain, making ball movement difficult for both teams. But Barry added a final goal on a penalty kick by Bogers after FNU's Augustin Morales was called for a hand ball in the box. | Barry 5, FNU 0
  • 70:40 - Just as the clock ticked over into the 70th minute, the game was called as the rain intensified and the field became completely unplayable.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • The Bucs dominated play, holding possession for 67 percent of play. They out-shot the Conquistadors 15-5, including 9-3 on goal, and led 7-1 in corners.
  • All three of the Conq's shots on goal came in the second half as the wet field slowed the ball and allowed them to steal passes in the back.
  • Linus Wirth played the first half for Barry, but did not face a shot on goal.
  • Rafael Furlani played the 25 minutes of the second half, making three saves.
  • Pereira Silva had four saves in the first half for FNU, but conceded four goals.
  • Juan Fermonselle made no saves in the second half for FNU.
  • The three assists by Calvillo tied the school record, which had been accomplished 10 times previously, the last by Lorenzo Cerrai against Florida Memorial on Oct. 15, 2019.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs host the Florida Southern Moccasins on Saturday, Nov. 2 in the final regular season home game.
