MIAMI SHORES, FL. - Sparked by 11 blocks and 10 service aces on Saturday afternoon, the Barry University volleyball team earned their first Sunshine State Conference (SSC) victory of the season in a 3-1 (25-23, 21-25, 25-18, 26-24) triumph over Florida Southern College

SUMMARY:
- Set 1 - Barry responded to a 2-0 start by Florida Southern with a 5-0 retort to pull ahead and never trailed for the rest of the first set. The Mocs used a late 6-2 stretch to knot the score at 22-all before back-to-back Barry points forced set point.
- Set 2 - The Bucs jumped out to an early 6-1 lead before a 6-0 run by FSC propelled them to a 7-6 lead. Barry flipped the one-point lead before back-to-back scores, responding to a 3-0 Florida Southern run with a 7-2 stretch to take a 15-12 advantage. Florida reclaimed the lead at 20-18 off a late 3-0 run and held Barry without a rally for the rest of the frame to even the overall score at 1-1.
- Set 3 - Barry scored the opening three points of the third set and never trailed, quickly amassing an 11-3 lead and never letting Florida Southern get within one point.
- Set 4 - After trading the opening 26 points of the fourth set, Barry used a 5-1 run to create the biggest lead of the frame at 18-14. Florida Southern knotted the score behind a 4-0 run, taking the lead late at 20-19 before a 4-1 Barry spree pushed the Bucs ahead 23-21. Florida Southern used three-straight points to force set point, only for an equal response by Barry ending the night.
NOTEWORTHY:
- Diana Akopova led all players with 21 kills and 17 digs for a double-double on top of four assisted blocks and two service aces.
- Varvara Osychenko served five aces while adding 12 kills and six digs.
- Thalia Iglesias dished out 39 assists with 14 digs for a double-double.
- Ivana Zujovic tallied five assisted blocks and one solo block.
- Barry boasted 10 service aces while Florida Southern served six.
- Both sides recorded 11 blocks and 59 digs.
ON THE HORIZON:
The Buccaneers travel to Florida Tech on Friday, Sept. 29 with first serve slated for 7 p.m.
