Women's Soccer Loses To #10 Eagles

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers lost 2-1 to the 10th-ranked Embry-Riddle Eagles on Saturday night in Sunshine State Conference women's soccer action at Buccaneer Field.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP
Final: #10 Embry-Riddle 2, Barry 1
Records: Barry (2-1-1, 1-1-0 SSC), ERAU (5-0-2, 2-0-0 SSC)
All-Time Series: ERAU leads 5-4-1

SUMMARY:

  • 16:20 - The Eagle struck first in the 17th minute. After winning a free kick in the middle of the field, Olivia Gallo served a perfect ball into the box, finding the head of Lauryn Mateo who flicked it on for the goal. | ERAU 1, Barry 0
  • 64:46 - The Bucs finally answered in the 65th minute. Tessa Evan won a ball in the midfield and sent a long pass up the middle to Alia Jaidi. Jaidi out-raced the defense, touched it past Eagle keeper Oona Jokinen and buried in the back of the empty net. | Barry 1, ERAU 1
  • 64:58 - The tie was short-lived, however, as the Eagles netted the fifth-fastest answering goal in NCAA Division II history. Isabelle Navren drove the ball down to the end line and whipped a cross in from the right side that bent off the far post and in the goal, just 0:12 seconds later. | ERAU 2, Barry 1

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Jokinen made two saves and allowed one goal to earn the win for the Eagle in goal.
  • Emily Parrott had three saves, including a brilliant punch over in the 58th minute on a shot by Eagles' leading scorer Grace Foyer, but conceded twice to take the loss.
  • Navren's goal was the fastest answering goal in SSC history, as well as the fifth-fastest in division history.
  • Barry won three of the first five meetings between the teams, but the Eagles have taken four of the last five, in a series that started in 2015.

ON THE HORIZON:

Barry travels to Nova Southeastern on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 7:00 pm in SSC action.
