Women's Soccer Opens Season With Shutout Of Rams

Six different players score in 6-0 win

ALBANY, Ga. -- The Barry Buccaneers opened the season with a 6-0 win over the Albany State Golden Rams on Saturday morning at ASU West Campus Field in women's soccer action.

SUMMARY:

  • 31:09 - The game was scoreless, despite the Bucs dominating play, until Honora Kahwach got the Bucs on the board with an unassisted goal in the 32nd minute on a free kick from about 30 years out.  | Barry 1, ASU 0
  • 57:12 - Mia Applegate took a feed from Tessa Evans to notch the second goal in the 58th minute. | Barry 2, ASU 0
  • 62:44 - Just five minutes later, ASU Norma Hernandez was called for a foul in the box and Alia Jaidi stepped up to conver the penalty kick. | Barry 3, ASU 0
  • 77:27 - Leticia Cuhna got into the act in the 78th minute, also unassisted. She stole the ball from the defense and fired a long-range shot over the head of keeper Daphne Estrada. | Barry 4, ASU 0

  • 88:00 - Daniella Atherton capped the scoring in the 88th minute with an assist from Urkidi. After a cross from the left, Urkidi found Atherton who tapped it in for the goal. | Barry 6, ASU 0

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Maya Caon got the start in goal, playing 68 minutes to earn her first win as a Buc, before being relieved by Emily Parrott. Neither keeper faced a shot on goal.
  • Daphne Estrada allowed six goals for the Rams, but also made 14 saves.
  • Barry out-shot Albany State 38-1 and 20-0 on goal.
  • The last time Barry had six different players score was last season against Florida Memorial, when seven found the back of the net against the Lions, in a game that was shortened to 80 minutes.

Barry opens up Sunshine State Conference play on Saturday, Sept. 9 at the Rinker Athletic Campus against Palm Beach Atlantic.
