DAVIE, FL. - Led by a 15-kill, 14-dig, five-block showing from
Varvara Osychenko, the 22nd-ranked Barry University volleyball team took the opening set of Saturday afternoon's Sunshine State Conference contest at Nova Southeastern before the host won the following three in a 3-1 (22-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-21) contest.

SUMMARY:
- Set 1 - Barry scored the opening two points of the contest and led for the bulk of the first set until a late 3-0 NSU run pushed them ahead 20-19. The Bucs knotted the score off the ensuing point, with the two sides splitting the ensuing four points to keep it tied at 22-all before Barry scored three-straight to end the frame.
- Set 2 - Nova started the second set with the opening four points, and eight of the initial 10, to quickly take an 8-2 lead. Facing a 19-11 deficit, the Bucs rallied to get within three at 23-20 but Nova ended the comeback effort with a 2-1 end to the stanza.
- Set 3 - Barry opened the third stanza with seven of the opening 10 points to quickly pull ahead 7-3, extending the lead to seven at 11-4. Nova made it a one-point game at 13-12 behind a 5-0 run, using a 6-0 spree after a Barry point to take an 18-14 advantage. The Bucs responded with a 3-0 run to get within one at 18-17, keeping the separation at one at 20-19 before a 5-0 NSU run gave them a 2-1 overall lead.
- Set 4 - After splitting the opening 40 points of the fourth set with neither side holding a lead greater than three during the stretch, Nova  used a pair of 3-0 spurts sandwiching a Barry point to finish the contest.
NOTEWORTHY:
- Osychenko recorded her third-straight double-double while her block total and assisted blocks were both career-highs.
- Diana Akopova added 13 kills, nine digs and one assisted block.
- Fiona Baker served a team-best two aces while contributing 21 assists.
- Ana Perez chipped in 11 digs.
- Thalia Iglesias dished out 12 assists.
- Jeyhlen Thomas assisted on four blocks with six kills.
- Marina Azevedo added four assisted blocks.
- Barry served five aces versus three for NSU.
- The Bucs totaled nine blocks, Nova accumulated seven.
- Barry held a 58-53 advantage on digs.
ON THE HORIZON:
The Buccaneers host nationally-ranked University of Tampa for Barry's home opener on Friday, Sept. 22 with first serve set for 7 p.m.
