INDIANAPOLIS - Barry University men's tennis star Alejandro Ibañez Gallego was awarded an NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship. The NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship awards a $10,000 scholarship for part-time or full-time graduate study at a university or professional school.
The award adds to the impressive accomplishments for Ibañez Gallego this year:
- NCAA Division II National Champion
- ITA All-American in singles and doubles
- ITA Scholar All-American
- CSC Second-Team Academic All-American
- Sunshine State Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll
- Second-Team All-SSC in singles and doubles
Ibañez Gallego became one of only two Buccaneers in history to win four NCAA National Championships in their career (Alejandro Palacios). He went 18-8 in singles this year (11-5 in dual matches) and 12-11 in doubles (11-9). Academically, he earned a 3.62 GPA while pursuing his MBA. He helped lead the Bucs to a SSC Championship, South Region Championship and NCAA National Championship on the 2023 season. He finished his career 42-14 in singles and 42-22 in doubles.
He is the 11th Buccaneer to earn a Post-Graduate Scholarship and the third to do so after winning the national championship.
