Baseball Loses Opener To Sailfish

Barry falls to 7-9 in conference

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers lost the Sunshine State Conference series opener 9-3 to the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish Thursday night at Jake Rubin Park in the Rinker Athletic Campus.

SUMMARY:

  • B1: The Sailfish jumped out in front in the first inning, scoring four runs off Barry starter Angel Cespedes.  With two outs, Pedro Figueroa walked and Nick Housen beat out an infield hits. Nick Casaleggio, Dre Llopiz and Giovanny Lorenzo had back-to-back-to-back singles to score four runs. | PBA 4, Barry 0
  • B3: Housen scored, after being hit by Cespedes to lead off the third, on a ground out. | PBA 5, Barry 0 
  • T5: Barry finally got on the board in the fifth. Braden Forchic led off with a double and scored on a single by Kevin Noriega. Noriega came home on a base hit by Jake Ogden. | PBA 5, Barry 2
  • B6: Matty Warren scored on a base hit from Matt Faranda, after reachng on an error. | PBA 6, Barry 2
  • B7: Housend led off with a single and later scored on an infield hit by Elias Machado. | PBA 7, Barry 2
  • T8: Christian Maceda was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on a single by Brandon Sanchez. | PBA 7, Barry 3
  • B8: Warren walked and scored on an error by shortstop. Faranda, who had singled, scored on a base hit by Llopiz. | PBA 9, Barry 3

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Cespedes (6-2) took the loss for the Bucs, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks in 5.0 innings.
  • Five different Bucs each had one hit. Forchic's was double, while Sanchez, Noriega and Ogden each drove in a run.
  • Faranda and Llopiz each had three hits for PBA.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs and 'Fish finish the Sunshine State Conference series on Friday with a double header.
