Sharks Sweep Series from Buccaneer Softball

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry University softball team dropped a doubleheader to the Sharks of Nova Southeastern University to finish a sweep of a Sunshine State Conference (SSC) three-game series at Buccaneer Field in Miami Shores, Florida, on Saturday.

  • T3: The Sharks scored four runs after two outs. Emily Thomas led off with a single to left and moved to second on a Hayley Lynch sacrifice bunt fielded by catcher Harper Bunn to second baseman Rylee Lord covering first. After Haelee Angelico got a harmless fly out to Angel Villanueva in center field, Alyssa Drogemuller doubled down the right field line. Ryleigh Langwell singled to left field and stole second to put two Sharks in scoring position. Madison Fine delivered a two-run single up the middle and got to second after Tia Williams' single to shortstop. Drogemuller reached on a fielder's choice as Mac Stone-Folmar caught Smith off second with help from Brooklyn Rushton at third and Rylee Lord at second. Langwell walked and Cassandra Lee came in to pitch for Angelico. Fine grounded out to Lord at second with both baserunners taking the next bag.   • T7: Nova Southeastern loaded the bases with no outs on two walks and a hit by pitch. Drogemuller singled to left field for an RBI, and another run scored on an error. Langwell singled up the middle to score Smith from third. Fine grounded out to Rushton who held the runner at third before getting Fine at first.   • B5: Hayley Pasma led off the inning with a single to left field. Brooke Moeller sacrificed Pasma to second. Alexis Bailey reached on a fielder's choice and hustled to second base when Pasma slid into third safely on a muffed throw by the Sharks. NOTEWORTHY:

  • In game one, Bucs left seven runners on base in the first three innings.
  • Julia Allen (W, 10-4) issued seven bases on balls while getting eight strikeouts, allowing just one hit in the complete-game shutout.
  • Harper Bunn had the lone Buccaneer hit with a double.
  • Haelee Angelico (L, 6-8) started and took the loss while fanning four Sharks.
  • In game two, Barry ended its scoreless inning streak at 37 when Hayley Pasma tied the game in the 5th.
  • Mac Stone-Folmar had a bunt single in the 6th.
  • Brooke Moeller blooped a single to right field in the 7th after Pasma was hit by a pitch.
  • In both games, Barry put the leadoff batter on base in four of seven innings.
  • Drogemuller (W, 18-6) missed out on her second-consecutive shutout but struck out four while walking none.
  • Maci Barnhart (L, 10-14) struck out five Sharks in her seven innings of work, and still ranks second in the Sunshine State Conference (SSC) with 155 Ks in 161.2 overall innings.

Barry travels to Daytona Beach, Florida, for its final series of the season against the Eagles of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
