Troutman 3-for-4 at top of order with three runs scored

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (Saturday, March 25, 2023) -- The Barry University softball team fell for the fifth straight time in Sunshine State Conference (SSC) action, dropping a 7-2 decision to Rollins College at Buccaneer Field in the final of a three-game series on Sunday afternoon in Miami Shores, Florida. Taylor Hartman (W, 6-0) pitched 6 and 2/3 innings in relief for her sixth win of the season. Haelee Angelico (L, 5-6) threw a complete game for the Buccaneers while striking out seven Tars in the defeat. Ashley Troutman had three infield singles, three stolen bases, and three runs scored at the top of the Tars' lineup.

  • B1: Bucs got a run back in their half when Mac Stone-Folmar led off with a walk and stole second, moved the third on a ground out and came home on a wild pitch. Tayor Hartman came in relief of starter Avery Garbarek who faced just the first three Buccaneers. | Rollins 2, Barry 1
  • B2: Barry tied the score with Alexis Bailey drawing a leadoff walk and moving to second on Sofia Chamorro's sacrifice bunt. Becka Mellor reached on an error to put Buccaneers at the corners. Brooklyn Rushton had the sacrifice RBI bunt to score Bailey. | Barry 2, Rollins 2
  • T3: Claire Long and Jaden Walker had successive one-out singles and moved up a base each on a passed ball. Morgan Lebeda's sacrifice fly to left put the visitors back on top. | Rollins 3, Barry 2
  • T4: Ashley Troutman struck out swinging, but reached first on a wild pitch. She advanced to second on a wild pitch before stealing third. Brie Michelli's single through the left side gave the Tars a two-run cushion. | Rollins 4, Barry 2
  • T6: Ashley Troutman singled and stole second. Grace Germer singled to center field and Troutman moved to third. Germer stole second. Brie Michelli had another RBI with a single to center and then she stole second. Germer scored the second run of the inning on a throwing error and Clair Long's long fly out to left scored Michelli from third with the third run of the frame. | Rollins 7, Barry 2

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Barry had gone unbeaten against Rollins over a 10-year span (4/6/1987 - 4/21/1997) that included 40 wins.
  • The Tars currently have a 13-game win streak against he Bucs.
  • Mac Stone-Folmar went 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored at the top of the Buccaneer lineup.
  • Both Buccaneer runs came after leadoff walks - Stone-Folmar in the 1st and Alexis Bailey in the 2nd.
  • Haelee Angelico allowed just three earned runs on nine hits while striking out seven. She walked one and hit two Tars.
