MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (Wednesday, March 15, 2023) -- What started out as déjà vu all over again because the Barry University softball team was playing a doubleheader with Caldwell University for the second time in four days, became more like last evening when the Buccaneers and Golden Bears of Kutztown University played the first contest scoreless through the first nine innings. Tonight, Barry and Caldwell put up goose eggs through the first eight frames, even with the automatic runner starting on second in the first extra inning. The Cougars broke through with a sacrifice fly to left for the game's only run to win 1-0 in nine innings. The Buccaneers got an RBI double with two outs in the second inning of game two from Angel Villanueva, and added an RBI bunt single from Mac Stone-Folmar, to support the combined one-run pitching of Haelee Angelico and Cassandra Lee and salvage a split of tonight's doubleheader with a 2-1 win.

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING:
NOTEWORTHY:
- Cassandra Lee (S, 2) worked the final three frames of game two for her second save of the season, both against the Cougars.

- Cassandra Lee walked three times in the opener to raise her team-leading season total to 19 bases on balls.
- Becka Mellor and Mac Stone-Folmar both went 2-for-4 in the opener. Stone-Folmar added an RBI bunt single in the nightcap.
- Angel Villanueva had three hits on the night, including an RBI double for the first Buc run. She was also robbed of a basehit by Cougar left fielder Emma Cooney in the bottom of the 9th.
- Barry takes three of four meetings with Caldwell, sweeping a pair on Sunday and splitting tonight.
- Haelee Angelico got pitching decisions in both games and only allowed one unearned run in eight innings of work. She limited the Cougars to five hits and one walk while striking out nine.
- Rylee Lord had the only extra-base hit of game one, a leadoff double in the bottom of the 2nd.
- Game one had been scheduled for a 5 p.m. start, but just after lineup introductions a weather alert forced a delay of 37 minutes.
