Men's Basketball Triumphs Over Eckerd, 86-70

Williams, Stanley pace the scoring with 19 and 15 apiece

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry University men's basketball team gained revenge on Eckerd College with a 86-70 victory in Sunshine State Conference (SSC) action Wednesday evening at the Health & Sports Center in Miami Shores, Florida. The Buccaneers improve to 10-11 overall and 6-10 in the league while the Tritons drop to 9-13 overall and 6-10 in SSC play.

All-Time Series:  The Tritons lead the series, 46-38, while the Buccaneers improve to 20-16 in meetings at home.

SUMMARY:

  • 1H - Jaron Williams scored 13 points in 17 minutes of action on the floor. The Tritons took a nine-point lead in the early going (11-2) following a 3-pointer from David Swedura at 16:24. OT Delancey had a layup, Williams had a jumper, and Nick Anderson drained a three for a 7-0 Buccaneer run. Tyler Hawkins' fast break jumper at 6:50 tied the score at 25-all.   • 2H - Malik Stanley scored 11 of his 15 points in the second half and the Bucs made 14-of-16 from the line. Barry started the period on a 20-0 run with 3-pointers from Tyler Hawkins and Nick Anderson right away. NOTEWORTHY:

  • The win puts Barry in a three-way tie for the eighth and final postseason spot in the Sunshine State Conference.
  • Tyler Hawkins and James Montgomery also finished in double-digit scoring with 12 points apiece.
  • Montgomery led the Buccaneers with seven rebounds.

ON THE HORIZON:
Barry travels to Davie, Florida, to tackle No. 1 and undefeated Nova Southeastern University on Wednesday, February 15 (7:30 p.m.).
