Men's Basketball Etches Name In Program Record Book In Victory Over FNU

MIAMI SHORES, Fla - In team-effort that featured a program-record 30 forced turnovers on the defensive end and 14 players contributing points on the offensive side, the 2023-24 Barry University men's basketball team etched their name in the program record book on Monday evening with the largest margin of victory in Barry history in a 100-31 victory over Florida National.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • 1H | Barry scored the opening two baskets of the contest, responding to a FNU jumper with an 14-0 run to boast a 16-2 lead with 13:17 remaining in the half. The Conquistadors rallied to get within single digits at 18-10, but were held to two points over the ensuing seven minutes while the Bucs scored 19 points in the stretch to extend their lead to 37-12 with 4:29 left to play in the half. FNU ended their drought with back-to-back baskets, adding one more with 31 seconds remaining before a Barry three on the other end made it 45-18 at halftime.
  • 2H | Barry held the Conquistadors without consecutive baskets for the opening nine minute of the second half before back-to-back threes made it 71-28 with 10:32 left to play. FNU did not score again until a three-pointer with 0:14 seconds left in the contest.
NOTEWORTHY:
  • The 69-point margin of victory is a program-record, breaking the previous record of 68 set on Dec. 21, 2019 against Toccoa Falls (129-61). 
  • The 31 points allowed are the second-lowest the Bucs have ever allowed. The record for the least amount of points is 29 in a 74-29 Barry win over Puerto Rico-Cayey on Nov. 25, 2008.
  • Adren Roberts scored 17 points off 8-11 shooting with eight rebounds and three assists in just 14 minutes of action.
  • Vee'lesk Avin scored 16 points off 5-8 shooting including 3-4 from distance.
  • Michael Bradley III boasted five steals with one block.
  • Barry converted on 38-75 shots, going 9-20 from distance and 19-32 from the free throw line.
  • FNU went 13-52 from the field, 5-28 from three-point territory and 0-2 from the free throw line.
  • Barry committed seven turnovers, resulting in three points for the Conquistadors. FNU committed 30 turnovers, leading to 42 points for Barry.
  • Barry held a 51-32 advantage in rebounds.
  • Barry recorded 18 steals, third-most in program history, with four blocks while FNU had three steals and four blocks.

Barry travels to Lakeland, Fla., for the Century Retail Christmas Classic on Saturday, Dec. 16, taking on Clayton State in a 5:00 pm matchup.
