Season-Highs Powers Men's Basketball Past Bluefield For Fourth-Straight Win

MIAMI SHORES, Fla - Highlighted by a season-high 99 points on the offensive side alongside a season-high 13 steals on defense, the Barry University men's basketball team outlasted a Bluefield State team that rallied to make it a four-point game with under four minutes to play for their fourth-straight win via a 99-89 result.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • 1H | Trailing early 4-0, the Bucs used a 7-0 run to flip the advantage in their favor at 7-4 with 17:26 remaining in the opening half. Barry pushed the lead up to nine at 25-16, fending off a BSU rally that made it a one-possession game at 35-32 behind a layup and three pointer back-to-back to create a 40-32 advantage with 7:40 left in the half. Bluefield took the lead behind an 11-1 stretch before a Ga'Khari Lacount triple propelled Barry to a 44-43 lead with 5:35 remaining in the half. Barry held BSU without consecutive baskets for the rest of the half, ending the frame with a Malik Stanley triple at the buzzer to create a 59-53 score.
  • 2H | Following a three-point play by the Big Blue to start the second half, Barry scored seven straight to create a double-digit lead at 66-56 with 17:37 left to play. Neither side created a run greater than three points over the ensuing seven minutes when a 4-0 spurt by BSU made it 74-69 with Barry responding behind six-straight points to take a game-high 11-point lead at 80-69 with 8:36 remaining in the contest. Still holding a double-digit lead at 86-76, Bluefield connected on back-to-back triples to get within four at 86-82, doing so again at 88-84 and 90-86 before the Bucs ended the night with nine of the final 12 points.
NOTEWORTHY:
  • James Montgomery paced Barry behind a career-high 29 points, going 11-18 from the field while adding seven rebounds, two blocks and one steal.
  • Stanley chipped in 19 points on 7-12 shooting with four triples on top of five assists and three steals.
  • Lacount scored a personal-best 19 points with seven rebounds and two steals.
  • Adren Roberts added 12 points with eight rebounds and three steals.
  • Barry converted on 33-61 shots, going 6-15 from distance and 27-39 from the free throw line.
  • Bluefield went 36-74 from the field, 6-24 from three-point territory and 11-17 from the free throw line.
  • Barry committed 16 turnovers, resulting in 16 points for the Big Blue. BSU committed 19 turnovers, leading to 24 points for Barry.
  • Bluefield State held a 39-37 advantage in rebounds.
  • Barry recorded 13 steals with three blocks while BSU had nine steals and four blocks.
