Men's Basketball Fends Off Montevallo For First Win Of Season

Miami Shores, Fla.- Welcoming Montevallo to the Health and Sports Center for the first time in program history on Saturday evening, the Barry University men's basketball team responded to a Falcons' basket to start the game with a 13-0 run and led for the duration of a 95-83 triumph to conclude the 2023-24 SSC/GSC South Region Crossover.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • 1H - Barry held Montevallo without a run greater than five for the majority of the opening half, until a late 7-0 UM run made it 47-32 in favor of Barry with 5:17 remaining in the half. The Bucs responded with a 12-0 run to boast a 27-point advantage at 59-32 before a Montevallo triple with 20 seconds left created a 59-35 halftime score.
  • 2H - Montevallo kicked off the second half with back-to-back triples, rallying to cut the deficit down to single digits at 84-75 before a quick 6-0 retort extended Barry's lead to 90-75 with 4:42 remaining in the contest. The Bucs kept the lead above double digits for the rest of the night.
NOTEWORTHY:
  • Nick Anderson led all players with 23 points, going 9-15 from the field and 5-8 from beyond the arc. With 165 three pointers in his career, Anderson moves into eighth in the program record book after starting the season 10th all-time.
  • James Montgomery chipped in 18 points on 5-10 shooting with 12 rebounds for his second-consecutive double-double.
  • Malik Stanley dished out a team-high seven assists with 15 points and three steals.
  • Ga'Khari Lacount added 16 points off the bench with five assists.
  • OT Delancy pulled down 10 rebounds.
  • Barry went 30-53 from the field and 10-16 from distance.
  • The Bucs held a 45-37 advantage in rebounds.

ON THE HORIZON:
Barry hosts Florida National on Monday, Nov. 13 with tip-off slated for 7:30 pm.
