Bucs explode for four second half goals

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers exploded for four second-half goals in a 4-0 win over Florida National in non-conference women's soccer action at Buccaneer Field on Monday night.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP
Final: Barry 4, Florida National 0
Records: Barry (3-2-2), Florida National (0-5-2)
All-Time Series: Barry leads 3-0

SUMMARY:

  • 48:52 - After a scoreless first half, that was nonetheless dominated by the Buccaneers, Barry wasted little time in the second half putting a stamp on the game. In the 49th minute, Julene Urkidi slipped a pass up the middle to Madison Paster at the top of the 18-yard box and Paster tucked a shot inside the far post for a Barry lead. | Barry 1, FNU 0
  • 49:16 - Just 0:24 seconds later, Urkidi took a pass at the top of the box and sent it back to Linea Jørgensen about 30 yard out. Jørgensen blasted a shot over the finger tips of Conquistador keeper Nahomie Ambroise into the upper 90. | Barry 2, FNU 0
  • 61:42 - In the 62nd minute, Urkidi helped the Bucs strike again. Her pass found Tessa Evans at the top right corner of the box and Evans ripped another shot past Ambroise into the upper 90 at the far post. | Barry 3, FNU 0
  • 76:25 - In the 77th minute, Mia Applegate scored probably the most impressive goal of the night, striking from 35 yards out after a pass from Makenzie Shean. Applegate's shot was another rocket into the upper 90. | Barry 4, FNU 0

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Emily Parrot picked up her first win and shutout of the season, but did not have to face a shot as Barry held a 32-0 edge over the Conqs.
  • Andrea Oropreza started in goal for the Conquistadors, but faced no shots in eight minutes of work. Ambroise came on in relief for the last 82 minutes and made 12 saves, but conceded the four goals to take the loss.
  • The three assists for Urkidi were the most for the Bucs since Amanda Traynor had three against Rollins on Oct. 29, 2016 and tied for 13th overall.
  • The Bucs held a dominant 69-31 edge in possession, with 85 percent of that coming in the FNU end of the field.
  • Barry also won 15 corner kicks to just three for the Conqs.
  • The game was a re-play from the Sept. 14 match that was canceled with the Bucs up 1-0 at the half.

ON THE HORIZON:

Barry stays out of conference when it travels to St. Augustine to face the Flagler Saints on Wednesday, Oct. 4.
