Women's Basketball Loses At Home To Sharks

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers lost 78-69 to the Nova Southeastern Sharks on Saturday on Cesar Odio Court in Sunshine State Conference women's basketball action.

  • 1Q - The Bucs started slowly, missing their first nine shots from the field. K'Nari Holliday came off the bench to score points, but the Sharks built a 10-point edge in the period. | Sharks 18, Bucs 8
  • 2Q - In the first 1:40 of the second period, the Sharks ran off a 9-1 run to push the lead to 18. Barry cut the lead to 15 on a jumper by Jeannie Scott, but that was as close as they would get in the frame. Three-pointers by Hailey Conley and Madison Frederick gave NSU 22-point leads. | Sharks 44, Bucs 22
  • 3Q - Barry opened the second half strong, with an 8-2 run, but the Sharks responded to push the lead back to 22, 54-32, on a layup by Kyarrah Grant. But Barry closed strong as well, on a 12-6 run, that left the lead at 15. | Sharks 59, Bucs 44
  • 4Q - Dasiah Thornton hit a three-pointer to open the fourth quarter, the first triple for the Bucs in the game. Ashia Pool's layup at 8:20 trimmed the lead under double figures at 60-51. NSU led by 15, 76-61, after free throws by Frederick. BUt Barry rolled off eight straight points to cut the margin back to seven with 0:38 seconds to play. But a missed three-pointer by Barry and two more charity shots by Frederick made the final margin. | Sharks 78, Bucs69

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Holliday led Barry with 16 points, shooting 8-of-9 from the field.
  • Guards Pool and Jackson added 12 and 10 points respectively.
  • Grant scored a season-high 21 points to pace four Sharks in double figures.
  • Frederick had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Barry visits conference leader Eckerd on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 5:30 p.m., in St. Petersburg, Fla.
