Bucs pull of a road conference win

ST. LEO, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers picked up another Sunshine State Conference road win in the Bowman Center on Saturday, 73-63 over the Saint Leo Lions.

SUMMARY:

  • 1Q - Barry jumped out on top early. Trailing 4-3 early in the first period, the Bucs ran off a 10-2 run to go up by seven, 13-6 with 4:02 left in th frame. They closed the period on a 6-2 run to take a nine-point edge into the break.  | Barry 19, SLU 10
  • 2Q - Dasiah Thornton scored six points in an 11-4 run to open the second quarter, building the lead to 16 with 3:52 left until half. But the Lions responded with an 11-3 run of their own, led by six points from Amanda Ulrich.  | Barry 33, SLU 25
  • 3Q - Saint Leo busted out of the loccker room, using some good work at the line, to out-score the Bucs 18-9 and take their only lead of the game 43-42 on a layup by Alex Button with 4:14 left in the period.   • 4Q - The teams mostly traded runs in the fourth quarter. Another layup by Button to start the period and a three-pointer by her with 0:34 second left, cut the lead to eight points, but the Lions could get no closer, as Ashia Pool went 4-for-4 from the line to seal the win for the Bucs. | Barry 73, SLU 63

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Pool poured in a season-high 19 points to pace the Bucs, while Thornton added 16 points, which marks a career-high.
  • Taylor Fowler grabbed 10 rebounds, leading Barry to a 40-24 edge on the boards.
  • Barry shot an impressive 56.0 percent from the floor, including 53.8 from three-point range.
  • They held the Lions to 37.1 percent from the floor and just 16.7 percent (3-for-18) from beyond the arc.
  • Barry's bench, led by nine points from K'Nari Holliday and eight from Flefil, made a big difference in the game, out-scoring Saint Leo's reserves 22-13.
