AUSTIN,Texas – The Buccaneers kick-started their 2022 season with a pair of dominant performances against St. Edward's and Edward Waters in their first two matches of the 2022 Hilltopper Classic, at the Recreations & Athletics Center. Barry won the opening match against St. Edwards in straight sets (29-27) (25-13) (25-18), and also swept Edward Waters (25-18) (25-16) (25-20).

• 1st set | St. Edward's made nine attack errors, supplying the difference as the Bucs had to work overtime for the win in the first set. Diana Akopova led the Bucs with six kills and two blocks. | Barry 29, St. Edwards 27
• 2nd set | Barry dominated the second set with an attacking percentage of .382 to St. Edward's .059. Marija Borcic directed the offense with 14 assists. | Barry, 25, St. Edwards 13
• 3rd set | Barry's sideout percentage of 68 percent closed the deal on the Hilltoppers, who continued to be plauged by errors. The 'Toppers committed seven attack errors, three service errors and a ball-handling error to gift the Bucs with 11 points. | Barry 25, St. Edwards 18

Edward Waters

• 1st set | Barry's hitting percentage of .438 was the difference as the Bucs started the match strong. Akaopove again set the tone with eight kills, while Mónica López had nine digs to stymie the Tigers' attack. | Barry 25, Edward Waters 18
• 2nd set | Thoough the Tigers stepped up their attack percentage to .333 in the second set, they coule make no headway as the Bucs kept the preassure on with an attack percentage of .625 with 21 kills. Christy Paul and Jeyhlen Thomas each had four kills on six swings. | Barry 25, Edward Waters 16
• 3rd set | After a very clean second set, the Tigers faltered in the third, making 13 errors as the Bucs walked away with the sweep. | Barry 25, Edward Waters 20

NOTEWORTHY:.

• Akopova totaled 37 kills between the two matches on the day, hitting .386. 
• Borcic had 75 assists to dierct the offense to a .335 attack percentage.
• López and Luana Bulara split the libero duties digging up 22 and 20 attacks respectively.
• Thomas and Courtney Zwikker led the Bucs at the net with six and five blocks.

Barry continues play at the 2022 Hilltopper Classic with two more matches on Saturday. First, at 10:00am against Harding and then the Bucs play again at 5:30pm against Dallas Baptist for their final match of the invitational.
