Baseball Loses Series Opener To Eagles

Bucs fall on the road

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Barry's baseball team lost 5-4 to the Embry-Riddle Eagles Sunday night at Sliwa Stadium in Sunshine State Conference action.

SUMMARY:
Game 1

  • T1: Ihosvany Castaneda, who had reached on a error with two outs, stole second and scored on a single by Joe Stella. | Bucs 1, Eagles 0
  • B2: The Eagles took the lead in the second. They loaded the bases and Daniel Trillo brought in a run when he was hit by a pitch by Barry starter Mike Reagan. Andrew Martinez followed with a two-run single. | Eagles 3, Bucs 1
  • T3: Elijah Eusebe walked, stole second and third and scored on a ground out by Stella. | Eagles 3, Bucs 2
  • B6: Garrett Bogart walked and scored on a squeeze bunt by Max Law. | Eagles 4, Bucs 2
  • T7: David Vazquez led off with a double and went to third on a failed pick off attempt by Eagle starter Garrett Goodall. After a walk to Brandon Sanchez, Eagle second baseman Law muffed the throw on his steal attempt, allowing Vazquez to trot home from third. Sanchez later scored on a wild pitch by reliever Garner Spoljaric (4-3). | Bucs 4, Eagles 4
  • B8: After Zach Coldsnow singled off Barry reliever JJ Galvis (0-2), Elias Campbell came in to run. Campbell later scored on a single by Law. 

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Spoljaric got the win with two scoreless innings in relief. He walked two and struck out one.
  • Galvis took the loss for the Bucs, allowing a run in his one inning of work behind Reagan.
  • Joe Balsam allowed one runner on an error, but otherwise worked a perfect ninth for his 11th save.
  • Sebastian Garrido had two of the four hits for the Bucs and Stella drove in two runs.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs continue the three-game series with the Eagles tomorrow at 1:30 pm at Sliwa Stadium.
