GAINESVILLE, Ga.--The fifth-seeded Barry Buccaneers lost to the eighth-seeded Findlay Oilers 4-1-0 in the semifinals of match play at the 2022 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championship at the Chattahoochee Golf Course on Friday afternoon.
Alice Götbring got the Bucs lone point, beating Erin Mulcahy by six strokes.
SUMMARY:
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bucs lost three matches by a single stroke each.
- With the match tied after 14 holes, Sapin bogeyed the next two holes before a birdie on 17,
- Gomez was tied after 13 holes. But Oiler All-American Kniesly had an eagle on 14 and went on to take the match despite a bogey on 17.
- Cowan also went down two strokes to Mary Kelly Mulcahy, before closing to one stroke with a birdie on 13.
- Klug had a double bogey on 17, while Woods had a birdie that left the freshman on the wrong side of the match.
- Götbring handled Erin Mulcahy with ease in the final match, leading wire-to-wire and winning by six strokes.
NOTEWORTHY
- The third-place finsh was the first for the Bucs after winning in 2017 and coming in second in 2002 and 2014.
- Sapin and Gomez both shot +1 on the round to lead the Bucs.
