Perez Tosses Complete Game To Lead Baseball Over Eckerd

Senior goes 9 innings, no earned runs

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Arrison Perez (1-1) tossed a complete-game and did not allow an earned run as the Barry Buccaneers topped the Eckerd Tritons 4-1 in a non-Sunshine State Conference baseball match up at the Turley Athletic Complex on Friday night.

SUMMARY:
Game 1

  • B1: Mikey Burke was hit by Perez with one out, then took third on a failed pick off attempt. He scored on a ground out. | Eckerd 1, Barry 0
  • T9: The first-inning run stood up until two outs in the top of the ninth. Kevin Noriega doubled to right center and Elijah Eusebe came on to run for him. Omar Baldo follwed with a double of his own to tie the game at 1-1. With Danny Cunningham running for Baldo, Sebastian Garrido pulled a single through the right side to give the Bucs the lead. After Garrido took second on the throw, Steven Torres cashed him in with another singel to right. Torres stole second and scored on Bran Socorro's double. | Barry 4, Eckerd 1
  • B9: Perez got three straight ground outs to end the game. 

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Perez tossed his third career complete game. He scattered six hits and struck out three without issuing a walk. He retired the last 17 batters he faced.
  • Jacob Stipp (2-3) nearly matched Perez, pitching into the ninth inning with a lead. He gave up two runs on five hits in 8.2 innings, walking two and striking out eight.
  • Baldo led the Bucs at the plate with two hits, including that game-tying double.
  • Ihovany Castaneda also had two hits.
  • The Bucs had only eight hits in the game, with five of them, including all three doubles, coming in the ninth inning.
  • After the unearned run in the first, the Tritons only advanced two runners into scoring position the rest of the game.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Buccaneers continue the three-game non-conference series tomorrow with Eckerd at noon in the Turley Complex.
