Softball Overpowers The Knights

Home runs by Germer and Wheless lead Barry over Lynn

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneer softball team started off their Sunshine State Conference series against the Lynn Fighting Knights on top, winning the first game 7-0 on Tuesday.

SUMMARY:
Game 1

  • B1 - The Bucs stole a run in the first inning. Taylor Thompson drew a four-pitch walk to lead off the game and stole second. After a wild pitch moved her to third and Payton Germer drew a walk, germer got herself into a run down, allowing Thompson to scamper home with the first run. | Barry 1, Lynn 0
  • B4: Germer led off the fourth inning with the first hit of the game for the Bucs, clearing the centerfield fence for her fifth homer of the year. | Barry 2, Lynn 0
  • B5: The Bucs score five runs on only two hits in the fifth. Courtney Chisholm walked and stole second. Thompson was drilled in the back by Lynn starter Madison Prickett (4-9). After a sacrifice bunt moved both runners, Cassandra Lee launched a double into the gap in right center, scoring both runners. Germer drew another walk and Jordan Ream and Karla Santiago came in to run for Lee and Germer respectively. Ream scored on a ground out by Sofia Chamorro after a passed ball and Maggie Wheless sent a ball deep into the the night over the leftfield wall for her fourth homer of the year. | Barry 7, Lynn 0

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Maci Barnhart (13-6) tossed her third shutout of the season, scattering six hits and striking out nine without giving up a walk.
  • Prickett took the loss for the Knights. In 4.2 innings, she allowed seven runs on three hits and seven walks, exiting after the Wheless homer.
  • Lee and Wheless each drove in two runs for the Bucs.
  • It was the eighth time this season, in 13 starts, that Barnhart has worked a complete game without giving up a walk.

ON THE HORIZON:

The two teams will square off in a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 5:00 pm.
