Bucs win in the falling mist

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers jumped out to a big lead early, then held on to soar past the Felician Falcons 12-8 on a misty night at Feinbloom Field on Monday.

SUMMARY:
Game 1

  • B1: The Bucs jumped out to a quick lead in the first. Branden Abreu doubled to lead off the game and went to third on a wild pitch. After Omar Baldo was hit by a pitch, Ihosvany Castaneda poked a single through the left side to bring in Abreu. Baldo later scored on a single by Danny Garcia. | Barry 2, Felician 0
  • B2: Matthew Menendez, who walked with one out, scored on a ground out by Abreu. | Barry 3, Felician 0
  • B3: The Bucs got four on the board in the third. Castaneda doubled to left center to lead off the inning and Joe Stella singled off first base. Garcia brought in Castaneda with a fly ball. After a ground out, Eddie Javier, Jr., singled through left side, scoring Stella. Brandon Sanchez singled to load the bases and two more runs came across when reliever Dan Robeson hit Abreu and Baldo with pitches. | Barry 7, Felician 0
  • B4: Barry got three more in the fourth. Stella doubled to start the frame. Jose Tabares and Javier walked one out later to load the bases. Stella scored on a wild pitch and Tabares and Javier came across on a single by Sanchez. | Barry 10, Felician 0

NOTEWORTHY:

  • A fine mist, shading at times to a light rain, fell throughout the contest.
  • Orduna went 6.1 innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on three hits, three walks and a hit batter. He struck out five to earn his second win of the season.
  • Logan Waltz (0-2) got torched on the rainy night for seven runs on eight hits, a walk and two hit batters in 2.2 innings as he made his first start in six appearances.
  • Sanchez went 4-for-4 with a walk to lead Barry at the plate. He scored one run and drove in two.
  • Abreu, Castaneda and Stella each hd two hits, including a double each. 
  • Abreu scored two and drove in two. Stella, Javier and Menendez each scored two runs, while Garcia added two RBI.
  • Genao and Tavarez each added single to go along with their three-run homers.
  • The Falcons pitching hit six Buccaneer batters with pitches, tying the second-most in Barry program history. The last time it happened was on Feb. 27, 2016 at Tampa.
  • The Bucs, who pounded out 17 hits, left 15 on base in the contest, the most this season.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs visit the Lynn Knights on the weekend in Sunshine State Conference play.
