Baseball Loses Series Opener To Mocs

Bucs fall in home conference opener

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry baseball opened up their Sunshine State Conference series with Florida Southern losing 5-1 on Friday night at Feinbloom Field.

Game 1

  • T2: The Mocs jumped on top in the second inning as Ryan Jenkins led off with a solo homer to left and the Mocs took advantage or a pair of Buccaneer errors to plate another run. | FSC 2, Barry 0
  • T6: Jeff Liquori knocked in Ahmad Fitts with a single up the middle. | FSC 3, Barry 0
  • B6: Ihosvany Castaneda manufactured the Bucs' only run in the sixth. He shot a single through the right side, stole second and third and scored when Mocs' catcher Joe Rafaele threw the ball away at third. | FSC 3, Barry 1
  • T7: The Mocs tacked on two more in the seventh, with the help of another Buccaneer error. Duncan Hunter led off with a single, but should have been erased on a fielder's choice by Connor Berry, but the Bucs failed to step on the bag. Jenkins knocked in Hunter with a single to right and Berry scored on a fly ball by Fitts. | FSC 5, Barry 1

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Anthony Bennetti (0-3) took the loss for the Bucs, giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits and three walks in five innings. He struck out five.
  • Nathan Madej (3-0) won for the Mocs. He walked five, but held the Bucs to just one hit in five innings of work, striking out six.
  • The Mocs' bullpen gave up six hits in four innings, but issued no walks and stranded five runners, including three in the ninth. They struck out seven.

The Buccaneers and Mocs play the rest of the series tomorrow starting at 1 p.m.
