Indianapolis, Ind. -- The Barry Buccaneers men's tennis will kick off on Friday, Feb. 18 in Indianapolis, Ind., at 8:00 am against No. 16 Delta State in the National Indoor Championships.
Eight of the nation's top Division II Men's tennis teams are set to face off in Indianapolis, Feb. 18-20 for the 2022 DII Men's National Team Indoor Championship. Featuring six teams within the Top Ten of the
Jan. 20 DII Men's ITA Preseason Top 25 Coaches Poll, this year's field features many storied DII programs in what is sure to be a weekend filled with fierce competition. The top five teams that are competing this weekend are No. 1 Columbus State, No. 4 Hawai'i Hilo, No. 5 Barry, No. 6 West Florida and No. 8 UIndy.
Alejandro Ibañez Gallego, who won the ITA South Region singles title in the fall and the ITA Cup national title in 2019, ranks third.
Alejandro Palacios, who clinched the national championship match in 2021 (ninth), and
Alessandro Giuliato, the 2021 SSC Player of the Year and ITA All-American in singles, who ranks 25th, join him. For doubles, the team of
Ignasi Forcano and Giuliato currently ranks 13th. Forcano and
Martin Gutierrez, who ended the 2021 season ranked fifth, earned ITA All-America in doubles last year.
Tournament play is set to begin at 8 a.m. (EST) on Friday, February 18 with the Championship match being played on Sunday, February 20 at 2:30 pm (EST).
The ITA National Team Indoor Championship is a single-elimination event, but all participating teams are guaranteed three matches.
