Softball Beats Hawks On Final Day In Cocoa

The Bucs beat Saint Anselm 10-1 and lost to the Argos 2-3

COCOA, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers split their games on the final day of the Florida Tech Softball Classic, defeating the Saint Anselm Hawks 10-1 before losing to the West Florida Argonauts 2-3 on Sunday, Feb. 13.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP (GAME ONE)
Final: Barry 10, Saint Anselm 1
Records: Barry (7-2), No. 8 Saint Anselm (1-3)
All-Time Series: Barry leads 10-1

SUMMARY:

  • B1 - The Hawks scored their only run of the game when Gracie O'hara smacked a ball over the left field fience. | Hawks 1, Bucs 0
  • T2 - Payton Germer counter punched for the Bucs, knocking a homer over center field and bringing home Maggie Wheless who reached on a leadoff walk. | Bucs 2, Hawks 1
  • T4 - The Bucs blew the game open in the fourth, scoring eight runs on six hits including another big two-RBI smack from Germer, this time a triple. | Bucs 10, Hawks 1

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Germer finished 3-3 with four RBI.
  • Maci Barnhart got her fourth win of the season in a game which she pitched four innings and threw seven strikeouts
  • Sofia Chamorro extended her hitting streak to a team-high eight games.

  • Things started off on the wrong foot for the Bucs when the Argos' Madelyn Vasquez smacked a two-run homer in the opening inning. | Argos 2, Bucs 0
  • The Bucs were able to tie it up when Mac Stone-Folmar drew a walk with the bases loaded and Courtney Chisolm smacked a single the next play, bringing home Angel Villanueva. | Argos 2, Bucs 2
  • The Argos scored the final run in the eighth without swinging the bat, scoring after consecutive wild pitches. | Argos 3, Bucs 2

NOTEWORTHY:

  • The Bucs left 13 runners on base compared to just three for West Florida.
