Softball Wins Big On Day One in Cocoa

The Bucs beat Bentley 7-4 and #8 Saint Anselm 4-3

COCOA, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers won big on day one of the Florida Tech Softball Classic, defeating the Bentley Falcons 7-4 and the No. 8 Saint Anselm Hawks 4-3 on Friday, Feb. 11.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP (GAME ONE)
Final: Barry 7, Bentley 4

SUMMARY:

  • T2 - Sofia Cham0rro got things started for the Bucs with a double to left field. scoring Maggie Wheless who reach on a walk. Skylar Jenkins singled and moved Chamarro to third. Then Sarah Johnson knocked Chamorro in on a sacrifice fly. | Bucs 2, Falcons 0
  • B2 - Bentley got one run back with a leadoff homer from Kaileen Cain. | Bucs 2, Falcons 1
  • T5 - The Bucs took control in the fifth, scoring three runs, including two who scored on a single into left field from Courtney Chisolm. | Bucs 5, Falcons 1
  • B5 - Cain made another play for the Falcons, singling on a bunt and bringing home a run in the process. | Bucs 5, Falcons 2
  • T6 - Chisolm came up big for the Bucs again, recording another RBI single to bring home Jordan Ream. | Bucs 6, Falcons 4
  • B7 - Cain logged her third RBI of the game but wasn't able to get any help and the Bucs took control in the process. | Bucs 7, Falcons 4

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Courtney Chisholm looks to have another big weekend, following up her SSC Player of the week award by hitting 3-4 with three RBI against the Falcons.
  • Sarah Johnson (1-0) earned her first win of the season, logging three strikeouts in four innings and giving up just one earned run.
  • Maci Barnhart came in for the final two thirds of an inning and earned her first save.

SUMMARY:

  • T1 - The Hawks got on the board early, scoring two runs on two hits and an error. | Hawks 2, Bucs 0
  • B4 - Becka Mellor took the plate with two outs and Chisolm on second. She responded by cracking an RBI single into left field and cutting the Hawks' lead in half. | Hawks 2, Bucs 1
  • T5 - Saint Anselm started the inning with back-to-back singles which allowed a Hawk runner to score on a sacrifice fly from Bailey Cain. | Hawks 3, Bucs 1
  • B5 - Chisolm proved patient at the plate in the fifth, drawing a walk with the bases loaded to get the Bucs a run back. | Hawks 3, Bucs 2
  • B7 - Skylar Jenkins stepped up to the plate to lead off the Bucs' comeback effort and doubled into center field. Pinch hitter Ayanna Andrade-Zygmunt moved Jenkins to third with a bunt. Cassandra Lee drew a walk a promptly stole second. Mac Stone-Folmar blasted a double into center field to bring in both runners as the Bucs walked off with the win.  | Bucs 4, Hawks 3

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Stone-Folmar drew three walks to go along with her two-run, walk-off double.
  • Lee (2-0) got the win in the circle, letting up just one earned run in a complete game effort. She allowed four hits, but did not walk a batter and struck out two.
  • Ava Vincequere (0-1) took the loss for the Hawks, allowing the two seventh-inning runs in 1.2 innings of work.
  • Payton Germer had two of the Bucs' six hits.

ON THE HORIZON:
Now the Bucs will get a night's rest before taking on the Wingate Bulldogs at 11:00 am on Saturday, Feb. 12, along with a rematch with Bentley later in the day.
