MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers shut out the high-powered Missouri Southern Lions 5-0 in baseball action at Feinbloom Field on Wednesday night.

- B3 - Barry worked a two-out rally in the third. Matthew Menendez singled through the left side after a seven-pitch at-bat and Branden Abreu slapped a shot through the right side to put runners on the corners. Kevin Noriega cashed in Menendez with a single to right, as Abreu went to third. Abreu later scored on a passed ball. | Barry 2, MSSU 0
- B4 - Barry got two more runs in the fourth after two outs. Jose Tabares led off the inning and was hit by a pitch from Lion starter Logan VanWey (0-1). Eddie Javier, Jr., followed with a bunt single. - B7 - Ihosvany Castaneda capped the scoring in the seventh inning. He singled to center, then went first-to-third on a failed pick off by Ryan Paschal. He scored on a passed ball by catcher Tommy Stevenson. | Barry 5, MSSU 0
NOTEWORTHY:
- Christian Orduna (1-0) worked five scoreless innings, scattering five hits and two walks. He struck out six.
- VanWey also went five innings allowing five hits and one walk, but the Bucs bunched them for four runs (three earned).
- Abreu continued his torrid start to the season, going 3-for-5 with a double, a run and two RBI.
- Ryan Doran had two of the five hits that the Lions managed off Bucs' pitching.
- The Lions came into the game batting .408 as a team, with 33 extra-base hits in four games, but were held to just five singles by the Bucs.
- JJ Galvis and Trevor Baker combined for four hitless innings and five strike outs in relief of Orduna.
- The shutout was the first for Barry since beating Tuskegee 10-0 on Feb. 8, 2020.
