Women's Volleyball Sweeps Lions On The Road

Schmorantz posts season-high 18 kills for Buccaneers

ST. LEO, Fla. – The #16 Barry Buccaneers women's volleyball team swept Saint Leo University, 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-20), in a Sunshine State Conference (SSC) matchup at the Bowman Center in St. Leo, Florida. The Bucs improve to 21-3 overall and 12-2 in the league.

All-Time Series: Barry leads series, 40-17, and has won both meetings in 2022 after splitting with Saint Leo each of the last two seasons. The Bucs improve to 21-10 all-time in road meetings with the Lions.

SUMMARY:

  • 1st set | Djuly Schmorantz delivered a kill for the first Buc lead (16-15) before Christy Paul and Diana Akopova followed with successive kills. At 20-all, a pair of kills from Schmorantz were followed by two attack errors from the Lions before Jeyhlen Thomas finished the set with a block. | Barry 25, St. Leo 20
  • 2nd set | Marina Azevedo started the set with a kill and Luana Bulera added an ace as Barry led wire to wire. Mónica López and Marija Borcic also added service aces in the set.  | Barry 26, St. Leo 16
  • 3rd set | Borcic gave the Buccaneers an early 3-0 lead with back-to-back service aces. Saint Leo led briefly (9-8) following an ace from Jeanette Henderson. Borcic and Thomas combined on a block and then Paul and Schmorantz added kills for a two-point Buc lead.
