Women's Basketball Loses To Knights On The Road

Bucs fall to 11-5, 8-4 SSC

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers lost 86-79 to the arch-rival Lynn Knights on Wednesday in the de Hoernle Center in Sunshine State Conference women's basketball action.

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING:

"We didn't defend well enough tonight. We kept fighting the whole game but you can't give up over 75 points and expect to win in this league. SUMMARY:

  • 1Q -  Leading 9-8 with just under half the period gone, the Bucs nine of the next 11 points  to take an 18-10 lead. A Dani Lozzi three-pointer at the end of the period cut the Bucs' lead to five. | Barry 20, Lynn 15
  • 2Q - Lynn trimmed the lead to three early in the second period, but Barry responded with 12-6 run to give them a nine-point advantage. They led by 10 after a layup by Ashia Pool, but another three-point buzzer beater, this time by Rachel Romich led the margin seven at the half. | Barry 40, Lynn 33
  • 3Q - Barry was still up eight in the third period, when Lynn exploded for an 11-2 run, capped by another triple by Romich, which gave the Knights their first lead since the initial basket of the game.   • 4Q - The Knights stormed out of the gate in the fourth, out-scoring the Bucs 15-7 to go up 70-63. Barry closed to within four on a trio of foul shots by Harriet Swindells with 0:39 seconds left, but despite having only one field goal in the last 3:17, the Knights hit 6-of-6 from the line in the final minute to secure the win. | Lynn 86, Barry 79

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Swindells led Barry with 23 points, adding seven rebounds and five assists.
  • Chiara Fusari had 14 points, while Pool added 13 points and a team-high nine reounds.
  • Loie Webb led five Knights in double figures with 21 points. 
  • The 31 points scored by the Knights in fourth quarter are the most the Bucs have given up in one frame this season.

ON THE HORIZON:

Barry concludes its season-longest four-game road trip at Nova Southeastern on Wednesday, Feb. 2.
