MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers split a Sunshine State Conference baseball doubleheader with the Saint Leo Lions on Saturday at Feinbloom Field, winning game one 8-1, but dropping the night cap 3-2.

GAME ONE:
- B1 - The Bucs jumped out in front in the first inning. Willie Escala singled to left and Ihosvany Casteneda drew a walk. Both runners moved up on a passed ball and Richie Sobalvarro drew a walk of his own. Escala scored on a wild pitch and Casteneda came in on a ground out. | Barry 2, Saint Leo 0

- T6 - The Lions finally got on the board in the sixth. Sam Crail drew a one out walk and Jake Vander Wal followed with a single to right, sending Crail to third. He scored on a fly ball.. | Barry 3, Saint Leo 1
- B6 - The Bucs got the run back and then some, batting around in the bottom of the frame. Ariel Diaz singled up the middle and Andrew Rapoza bounced one through the left side. Escala dropped a perfect bunt down the third base line to load the bases. Diaz scored on a ground out and Rapoza came home on a wild pitch. Sobalvarro beat out an infield single to score Escala and Casteneda scored on a fly ball. Sobalvarro scored on an error by third base Cooper Trinkle. | Barry 8, Saint Leo 1

- T1 - The Lions rapped out four straight hits to score two run in the first inning. Paul Coumoulos and Adrien Roa had RBI singles. | Saint Leo 2, Barry 0
- B4 - Escala manufactured a run for the Bucs in the fourth to cut the lead in half. He singled, went to third on a over throw by catch Eddie Niemann and scored on a ground out. | Saint Leo 2, Barry 1

- B7 - The Bucs nearly mounted a comeback in the seventh. Casteneda beat out an infield single to second and Sobalvarro shot a single through the right side. JC Garcia ripped a double off the wall in left to score Casteneda and leave runners at second and third with no outs. But Lion starter Jimmy Burnette regrouped to strikeout out the side and hold on for the one-run win. | Saint Leo 3, Barry 2
NOTEWORTHY:
- Frank Gonzalez (4-0) worked six innings, allowing a run on four hits and four walks to earn his fourth win. He struck out six.
- Michael Reagan worked the final three scoreless innings, allowing just two walks and striking out three for his first save.
- Jared Beck (2-4) was tagged with the loss for the Lions. He allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits and four walks in 2.1 innings.
- Burnette (3-5) carried a one-hitter into the seventh and finished with a complete game for his third win. He ended up with two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk and struck out eight.
- Arrison Perez (4-3) lost for the second straight start after a rough first inning. In 5.1 innings, he allowed three runs on 10 hits. He struck out four.
- Escala had four hits, Casteneda and Sobalvarro each had three for the Bucs.
- Garcia drove in three runs, while Casteneda scored three.
