Women's Tennis Breezes Into Semifinals Over Ravens

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- The Barry Buccaneers breezed past the Franklin Pierce Ravens 4-0 in the quarterfinals of the 2021 NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex on Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Doubles was over, practically before it started, as the Bucs won at number one and two, dropping just three games in the process.
  • Tenth-ranked Khazan and Bosnjak shutout Mor and Loria 6-0 at number one
  • Engelmann and Razafindranaly made almost equally short work of Penalver and Alvarez, 6-3, at number two.
  • It was even quicker in singles. Second-ranked Khazan smoked Penalver 6-1, 6-0 at number one.
  • Bosnjak, ranked #26, shutout Loria 6-0, 6-0 at number three.
  • Engelmann, ranked 20th, clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Mor at number two.
  • The Bucs won first sets at the other three matches as well, although they went unfinished.

NOTES

  • The Bucs advance to the national semifinals for the eighth time in the last 10 tournaments.
  • The Bucs the Central Oklahoma Broncos, who beat Indiana (Pa.) 4-0.
  • The match was the seventh straight shutout win for the Bucs.
  • It was the first time that the Bucs and Ravens had met on the courts.

The Bucs play in the national semifinals against the three-seed, Central Oklahoma, on Thursday, May 20 at Noon Eastern.
