Women's Basketball Opens With Win Over Falcons

Bucs dominate St. Augustine's

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers opened the season with a dominant 86-50 win over the St. Augustine's Falcons on Cesar Odio Court on Sunday afternoon.

SUMMARY:

  • 1Q - The Buccaneers scored the first nine points of the game and never looked back. The Bucs shot 50 percent from the floor, scoring 10 points in the paint, as they built a 21-14 lead at the break.  | Barry 21, SAU 14
  • 2Q - Barry kept up the pressure in the second period. Holding the Falcons to just 27.3 percent shooting, the Bucs tacked on 17 points to their advantage.  | Barry 53, SAU 29
  • 3Q - The Bucs cooled off a little in the third period, but pushed the lead over 30 points on a steal and layup by Chiara Fusari with 5:26 to play. Aaliyah Foreman made it 31 at the break with a buzzer beater. | Barry 70, SAU 39
  • 4Q - With the game out-of-hand, none of Barry's starting guard played in the fourth quarter. But the Falcons could not take advantage. A three-pointer by Lauren Banks cut the lead to 28 points at 7:26, but that was the only time the Falcons were closer than 30 points in the period. A free throw by Dasiah Thornton with :27 second left gave Barry it's biggest advatage of 38 points, before SAU hit one last basket to make the final margin 36.  | Barry 86, SAU 50

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Barry shot 46.2 percent from the floor, including 42.9 percent from three-point range. They held the Falcons to just 25.9 percent from the floor and 22.2 from the arc.
  • Harriet Swindells led Barry with 14 points in just 16 minutes. Fusari and Trinity Bosecker each had 11 points.
  • Emma Hergot had 10 rebounds, and Bosecker added nine, as the Bucs owned the glass 49-35, including 14 on the offensive end. 
  • Each team had 17 turnovers, but the Bucs made more of their chances, scoring 23 points to kust 11 for SAU.
  • Barry also owned a 30-16 edge in the paint.
  • Dainelle Rainey led SAU with 10 points, including 7-of-10 from the line..

ON THE HORIZON:

Barry gets into Sunshine State Conference play on Nov., 20 when they host the Florida Southern Moccasins in the first part of a conference doubleheader at 2:00 pm.
