Volleyball Loses To Lynn In Four Sets

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.– The Barry Buccaneers lost in four sets to the Fighting knights of Lynn in Sunshine State Conference volleyball action on Saturday night in the Health & Sports Center. The Fighting knights won the match 25-16, 25-19, 19-25, 25-21.

SUMMARY:

  • 1st set | Leading just 18-15, the Fighting Knights scored the seven of the last eight points to edge the Bucs in the first frame. Lynn committed just one error in 35 attacks.  | Lynn 25, Barry
  • 2nd set | Lynn continued their momentum, posting a blistering .370 attack percentage for the set. The Knights sided out at 78 percent, compared to just 60 percent for the Bucs, keeping Barry from builing any momentum. | Lynn 25, Barry 19
  • 3rd set | After the break, the Bucs came out inspired and took the third set. The flipped the side out percentage, converting 15 of 19 chances (78 percent), while Lynn was only able to convert on 13 of 25 (51 percent). The Bucs pounded out 19 kills, including eight from Djuly Schmorantz. Trailing the Bucs 23-14, however, the Knights tried to stage a comeback, scoring five of the next six points before Tyanna Butler closed the set with a kill. | Barry 25, Lynn 19
  • 4th set | The fourth set started very tiught. Trailing 11-10, the Knights built a cushion at 15-12. Barry closed back to one point on several occasions, but the Knights closed the set with three straight points. | Lynn 25, Barry 21

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Djuly Schmorantz led the contest with 16 kills. Schmorantz also picked up eight digs and four service aces for another all-around solid game.
  • Mariana Bertrán added 11 kills for Barry.
  • The Bucs had three players in double digit digs, led by Bianca Paşca with 15, followed by Mónica López with 13, and Jennifer Collazo with 11.
  • Paşca directed the Bucs' offense with 38 assists.
  • Barry actually out-hit the Knights 54-50 in kills, but Lynn committed only nine errors, while Barry had 23.
  • Nadia Lindner led the Knights with 15 kills.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs gear up for one final time this season at home at the Health & Sports center, Saturday November 13th for senior night. First serve is at 4:00 pm.
