Freshmen Dominate For Men's Soccer On Senior Night

Rookies combine for five goals, three assists and a shutout

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers posted a much-needed win in Sunshine State Conference men's soccer action at Buccaneer Field on Saturday night 6-0 over the Eckerd Tritons.

SUMMARY:

  • 7:37 - Juan Caffaro broke the ice early. Caffaro broke free in the middle and was tackeld from behind by Ecker'd Tommy Lamb, earning a free kick from 22 yards out. Caffaro popped over the wall and into the top left corner of the net. | Barry 1, Eckerd 0
  • 24:31 - Senior Marlon Buck made it 2-0 in the 25th minute. Tyler Dobinson slotted a beautiful ball through the Triton defense to Daniel Schaal on the left wing. Schall's cross found Buck unmarked at the six-yard box and Buck converted. | Barry 2, Eckerd 0
  • 62:16 - Caffaro struck again in the 63rd minute, making a quick move in the box and drawing the foul from Triton keeper Quentin Kirch. Caffaro stepped up to convert the penalty. | Barry 3, Eckerd 0
  • 66:23 - Freshmen Alec Becker, Peekay Stoffle and Lucas Silva combined for three goals in 15 minutes. Stoffle sent the ball in from the right wing and Becker got his head on it in the 67th minute. | Barry 4, Eckerd 0
  • 79:57 & 81:04 - Stoffle and Silva scored two nearly identical goals just over a minute apart, at the end of the 80th minute and at the start of the 82nd. | Barry 6, Eckerd 0

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Freshman Nils Buecheler made three saves to post his second straight clean sheet, to earn the win, including a sliding kick save in the 51st minute.
  • Kirch took the loss after allowing six goals on 14 shots on goal.. 
  • Freshmen Caffaro, Stoffle, Becker and Silva combined for five goals and three assists on Senior Night.
  • It was the biggest offensive explosion for the Bucs this season, topping the 5-0 result with Florida Memorial on Sept. 8.
  • The Bucs honored the 2020 and 2021 senior classes before the game.
  • The win inched the Bucs over .500 in the SSC at 5-4, setting up a huge showdown on Tuesday.

ON THE HORIZON:

Barry hosts the conference-leading Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish on Tuesday, Nov. 2 in the final regular season home game at Buccaneer Field.
