Baseball Sweeps Up Panthers In SSC Series

Bucs vault into first place in the conference

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The 13th-ranked Barry Buccaneers swept a Sunshine State Conference baseball doubleheader from the Florida Tech Panthers 2-1 in 12 innings and 11-2 at Feinbloom Field on Saturday.

  • B12 - Arrison Perez and Mike Fernandez were hit by pitches from Blake Beyel (0-2). Bran Socorro came in to run for Fernandez. JC Garcia slapped a double down the right field line, scoring Perez and Socorro motored all the way around with the winning run. | Barry 2, FT 1

  • B3 - Willie Escala singled to left to lead off the inning. He stole second and motored all the way around when Panther starter Joey Hecht (0-3) threw the ball away on a pick off. Richie Sobalvarro singled and moved to second on a hit by Ariel Diaz. Both runners moved up on a wild pitch and Sobalvarro scored on a ground out by Smolenski. | Barry 4, FT 0

  • B8 - Pinch hitter Ysnabi Capote doubled to right for his first career hit and scored on a single by Joel Alvarez. NOTEWORTHY:

  • Myles Gayman tossed 10 shutout innings in the opener, scattering six hits and two walks and striking out five. But he did not figure in the decision.
  • Arevalo picked up the win in his secons straight game after the Bucs scored in the 12th. 
  • Boris Villa matched Gayman for seven innings before he had to come out. He held the Bucs to two hits and two walks and struck out nine.
  • Blake Beyel (0-2) took the loss in relief. In 4.1 innings, he allowed two runs on two hits and a walk and struck out three.
  • MIke Reagan (3-2) earned the win in the night cap. He worked 6.2 innings, allowing a run on eight hits and a walk and striking out four.
  • Hecht took the loss, giving up five runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks in 4.1 innings.
  • Escala and Diaz each hd three hits in the twinbill for the Bucs. Escala scored twice and swiped four bases. Sobalvarro had three runs.
