MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University volleyball coach Steve Hendricks announced the signing of Djuly Schmorantz, an NJCAA Division I transfer from Seward County College.

Schmorantz is a 5-foot-9 outside-hitter from Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil who helped lead the Saints to a 63-10 record during her two years in Liberal, Kansas. After finishing fourth nationally in 2018, the Saints fell one set short of winning the 2019 NJCAA National Championship. As a sophomore, Schmorantz played in all 34 matches including the program's first National Championship match. The Brazilian led the team with 56 service aces and finished second in kills (358) and digs (278). For her career, Schmorantz totaled 836 kills on 1819 attempts giving her a career hitting percentage of .322, along with 622 digs. Some of the accolades for the junior college transfer include a pair of NJCAA All-Tournament Team selections, Jayhawk West All-Conference First Team in 2018 and 2019, and a two-time Jayhawk West player of the week.

"I chose Barry University because I think it's the perfect place to continue my volleyball career while pursuing my degree," Schmorantz said. "Also, historically, the Buccaneers have had such a winning tradition with their volleyball program. Competing for championships is very important to me and also played a part in my decision to come to The Shores," Schmorantz added.

Before signing with Seward, Schmorantz played volleyball at Colegio Martin Luther in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil under head coach Rodrigo Rother.
