Men's Hoops' Comeback Falls Short in OT Loss to PBA

The Buccaneers made a season-high 15 three-pointers against the Sailfish

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers trailed by 12 points at the half to Palm Beach Atlantic inside the Health & Sports Center and stormed back to force overtime against the Sailfish, but ultimately fell 100-95 at home on Wednesday night. Tylan Birts led all scorers with 25 points.

WHAT ARE THEY SAYING:

SUMMARY:
  • Barry led 12-7 at the first media timeout of the game. PBA would go on a 23-5 run to lead 30-17 with 7:47 remaining in the first period and then went on another 12-0 run later in the period to extend their lead to 20 which was their largest of the game. Barry finally answered with their first run of the game, scoring eight unanswered points in the last 1:09 of the half. 
  • The Buccaneers struggled in the first half on both ends of the court. Offensively, Barry committed 12 turnovers leading to 13 PBA points. Defensively, PBA shot 53 percent and out-rebounded the Bucs 21-10. Birts and Toru Dean scored 25 of Barry's 38 points. 
  • Barry chipped away at the Sailfish lead until they were finally able to take the lead 81-80 with a Justinas Marcinkevicius layup at the 3:55 mark. Marcinkevicius was fouled, but missed the free throw. He would make another layup with 1:17 left in the game to give the Bucs a five point lead. On the following possession, PBA answered with a four-point-play when Barry fouled a three-point shooter making it 89-88 Bucs. 
  • Some missed free throws by Barry allowed PBA to tie the game at 90 with :07 on the clock. The Buccaneers were out-scored in the overtime period 10-5.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • PBA went 30-34 from the free throw line (88 percent) while the Bucs went 10-16
  • After committing just seven turnovers in the first half, PBA finished with 22 for the game
  • Barry made a season-high 15 three-pointers against the Sailfish
  • Dean set season-highs in points, minutes, field-goals made and attempted, three-pointers made and attempted and steals
