Women's Basketball Catches Big Win Over Sailfish

Fusari has career-high 12 points

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers used a stifling defense in the third quarter to catch a big Sunshine State Conference women's basketball win over the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish 66-43 at the Greene Center on Wednesday night.

  • 1Q - The Sailfish led by four early, but Barry cut the lead to two, 12-10, on a layup by Emma Hergot with 3:49 left in the period. Neither team scored the rest of the way. | PBA 12, Barry 10
  • 2Q - The Sailfish took their biggest lead of the half on a three-pointer by Kennedi Rodgers too start the quarter. But Barry went on a 6-0 run to take their first lead of the game, 16-15, on another layup by Hergot. PBA went back up by four until a triple by Harriet Swindells cut it to one.   • 3Q - The third quarter belonged to the Buccaneers, thanks to timely shooting and a stifling defense. Barry opened the period on a 8-0 run to take a 31-26 lead that they would not relenquish. Hergot scored four points in the run. Barry pushed the lead to nine, 39-30, on a layup by Chiara Fusari, who led the Bucs with six points in the quarter. She hit another jumper in the last minute to make the lead double figures, 43-33.   • 4Q - The game got out of hand quickly in the fourth quarter, as Barry out-scored the 'Fish 12-2 in the first five minutes of the frame. A three-pointer by Charlotte Armstrong gave the Bucs a 57-35 lead at 4:50 of the quarter. The lead balooned up to 26 points on a pair from the charity stripe by Fusari before PBA climbed back to withon 18. NOTEWORTHY:

  • Hergot led the Bucs with 14 points and Swindells added 11.
  • Fusari had a career-high 12 points and five steals off the bench.
  • PBA had no players in double figures. Rodgers and Aniyah Ross each had eight points.
