Women's Soccer Falls Despite Doubling Spartans In Shots

The Bucs lost 1-0 in Tampa

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers fought to the buzzer but fell in their conference women's soccer opener 1-0 against the Tampa Spartans on Saturday night at Pepin Stadium, despite doubling their Sunshine State Conference opponent in shots.

SUMMARY:

  • 15:22 - Maddie Hart-Pomerantz recorded her first two saves of the night when she stopped two chances from Tampa forward Moeko Morse.
  • 41:17 - Jalyssa Richardson notched the game's only goal in the 42nd minute, just over 90 seconds after she checked into the game.  
  • 48:06 - Barry best scoring chance came just after the half when Ellen Cederin's shot got past Spartan keeper Megan Bromwell only to be swept off the line by her defense.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Barry out-shot the Spartans 19-9, although both squads put six on frame.
  • Both Hart-Pomerantz and Bromwell had five saves, but Tampa's team save was the difference in the ball game.
  • Barry also led 8-1 in corners.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs return home on Tuesday, Sept. 24 to take on the ASA Miami Silver Storm in an exhibition match.
