Men's Tennis Dominates All-SSC Team; Samuel Named COY

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Sunshine State Conference announced their men's tennis All-Conference teams Wednesday afternoon, with the Buccaneers having seven different players named to All-SSC teams and Bucs head coach George Samuel earning SSC Coach of the Year. Seventeen student-athletes have been named to the 2019 All-SSC men's tennis teams, Barry University, SSC regular season and tournament champion, claims 13 total awards including Coach of the Year. Voting for the All-SSC teams was conducted among the league's men's tennis coaches.

League tennis coaches named Samuel as Coach of the Year after going 20-1 overall and 8-0 in SSC play this season. Under Samuel's instruction, No. 2 Barry will head to a 25th straight regional following the team's 15th conference tournament title. Samuel now owns the second most SSC Coach of the Year awards in a single sport after collecting his 16th this year3. Factoring in women's tennis, Samuel has collected the most Coach of the Year awards in SSC history4.
 
Barry's Pierre Montrieul highlights the repeat All-Conference honorees for 2019. Montrieul is named All-SSC for the fourth consecutive year, including back-to-back awards at first team singles. In total, eight of the nine upperclassman award winners repeat as All-SSC in 2019. Carlos Gomez, Vivien Versier, and Daniel Ventura are all repeat winners and make appearances across the awards list. The duo of Alejandro Ibanez Gallego and Alejandro Ortega Palacios join Montrieul and Blake Bayldon on the All-SSC Men's First Team Doubles list.
