MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The postseason continues for the Buccaneer men's tennis team with win-or-go-home match against the Benedict Tigers on Saturday, May 10, in the NCAA Regional Semifinal at the Buccaneer Tennis Center. If the Buc advance they will play the winner of the West Alabama vs. Lynn match on Sunday.
The Buccaneers posted a 20-1 record in the regular season with a perfect 8-0 record in the conference, capped off by a dominant run in the Sunshine State Conference tournament that cumulated in the Bucs taking home the conference championship. The Bucs finished the season as the No. 2 team in the country in the ITA rankings.
The Benedict Tigers were strong in their conference, dominating the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference to the tune of a 10-2 record in the division but just a 11-9 record overall.
The Bucs finished the year with all six of their starting singles players ranked within the top-75. Pierre Montrieul leads the Bucs with his No. 7 ranking, followed by Alejandro Ibañez Gallego at No. 28, Carlos Gomez at No. 29, Alejandro Ortega Palacios at No. 33, Daniel Ventura at No. 46, and Vivien Versier at No. 75. All six of the Bucs singles player recognized on the All-SSC team. The duo of Alejandro Ibanez Gallego and Alejandro Ortega Palacios joined Montrieul and Blake Bayldon on the All-SSC Men's First Team Doubles list.
