Softball Drops Series to Tampa on the Road

Vallee went 10.2 innings in game two against Tampa, only allowing two runs

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Buccaneers lost a three game series against Sunshine State Conference opponent, the University of Tampa this weekend. Barry played a double-header today at Namoli Family Stadium after losing game one 2-0 last night. The Bucs dropped game one today 8-0 and came up short 2-1 in extra innings during game two and the final game of the series.

SUMMARY:
Game One

  • B1 - The Spartans jumped on Barry right away with three runs on three hits in the inning. | UT 3, Barry 0
  • B2 - The Bucs struggled defensively with two more errors in the inning allowing Tampa to double their lead with three more runs. Barry's starting pitcher Peyton Rawls would get out of the inning, but would see her last Spartan batter. Despite giving up six runs in two innings, only one run was earned. | UT 6, Barry 0
  • B3 - Andrea Johnson came in to pitch for the Bucs in relief and gave up a run to the Spartans. | UT 7, Barry 0
  • B4 - Tampa would tack on another run that triggered the run rule in five innings against the Bucs. | UT 8, Barry 0

SUMMARY:
Game Two 

  • B3 - The Bucs did a much better job defensively in game two, but still gave up a run in an inning where they committed an error. | UT 1, Barry 0
  • T4 - Lynsey Duncan led of the inning with a single to center field. After a pair of outs, Andrea Johnon's base-hit allowed Duncan to score from second and give Barry their first run of the series. Duncan had advanced to second on a ground ball by Savannah Starling. | UT 1, Barry 1
  • B11 - Gabby Vallee was outstanding for the Bucs in 10.2 innings of work not giving up a second run until Tampa recorded a base-hit and the runner was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. A single to left field scored the winning run for the Spartans and gave Tampa the series sweep. | UT 2, Barry 1
NOTEWORTHY:
  • Duncan was 3-for-6 in the two games today against Tampa.
  • Vallee had her longest outing of the season in game two after going 10.2 innings. She gave up two runs, one earned while allowing just eight hits.
  • Tampa has won 18-straight games.

ON THE HORIZON:

Barry will head to St. Leo, Florida to take on the Lions at University Field for another SSC three-game series beginning on Friday, April 12th . Game one is set for 7:00 PM.
