Softball Drops DH with Lynn; Loses Series 2-1

Lynn's pitcher Kayla Sheffield recorded a pair of complete game shutouts against the Bucs

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- After taking game one of the series yesterday, the Buccaneers dropped games two and three against Lynn University at the McCusker Complex on Wednesday afternoon. Barry dropped the first game of the double-header today 9-0 against the Knights in five innings and came up short in the final game of the series 2-0.

SUMMARY:
Game One

  • T1 - Savannah Starling singled to right field and stole second base to put a runner in scoring position for the Bucs with one out, but was left stranded. | Barry 0, Lynn 0
  • B1 - The Fighting Knights would grab two early runs, but leave the bases loaded. | Lynn 2, Barry 0
  • B2 - Lynn picked up right where they left off scoring four runs on three hits while leaving two more runners on base. Lynn 6, Barry 0

SUMMARY:
Game Two 

  • B1 - The only two runs in the game were scored in the first by the Fighting Knights on four hits. Gabby Vallee cruised for the remainder of the game, allowing just two hits and no free bases. | Lynn 2, Barry 0
  • T4 - Lynn's starting pitcher Kayla Sheffield was tough, not allowing a hit through the first three innings. Starling recorded the Bucs' only hit in the game, but momentum was halted when Peyton Rawls hit into a double play and Andrea Johnson grounded out to end the inning. |  Lynn 2, Barry 0

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Starling went 3-for-8 in the series against Lynn with an RBI and stolen base.
  • In two starts this series against the Fighting Knights, Vallee went 1-1 with a 1.62 ERA in 13 innings of work. She struck out eight batters and allowed just one walk. 
  • Sheffield pitched in both games today for the Fighting Knights, recording a pair of complete game shutouts against the Bucs

The Bucs welcome Nova Southeastern (12-10) this weekend for a three-game series beginning on Saturday at 1:00 PM at Buccaneer Field.
