Softball Splits DH with Emporia State

Gabby Valle was impressive in game two, throwing six innings while only allowing one run on three hits and striking out six.

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Buccaneers split their double-header against Emporia State on Saturday afternoon on Buccaneer Field. Barry dropped game one vs. the Hornets 15-1, but came back and took game two by the final score of 9-1.

SUMMARY:
Game One

  • B2 - Bucs' starting pitcher Andrea Johnson made quick work of the Hornets through the first two innings, managing to get ESU hitters to roll over and hit ground balls. The first 5-of-6 ESU hitters grounded out. | Barry 0, ESU 0
  • B3 - Things would change the next inning for Johnson and the Hornet bats. ESU was able to pound out five runs on three hits, including a grand slam by ESU's Hanna Steeby. | ESU 5, Barry 0
  • B4 - Barry would pick up their first run of the game when Savannah Starling doubled to left-field, scoring Peyton Rawls. ESU 12, Barry 1

SUMMARY:
Game Two 

  • B1 - Barry jumped on the Hornets right away in the first after a Taylor Randazzo sacrifice fly scored Lynsey Duncan and Rawls on the throw | Barry 2, ESU 0
  • B2 - The Bucs added two more in the second after back-to-back doubles by Duncan and Taylor Checkley. |  Barry 4, ESU 0 
  • B5 - Rawls recorded her first home run of the season on a shot to center field with the count full. | Barry 5, ESU 1
  • B6 - Barry would scrap together four more runs without a hit in the inning and end the game on a run rule. | Barry 9, ESU 1 

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Gabby Valle pitched her best game of the season in game two against the Hornets, going six innings while only allowing one run on three hits and striking out six ESU batters. 
  • Duncan finished the day 2-for-5, scoring a team-high three runs with an RBI.
  • Despite Rawls' home run being her only hit of the day, the junior showed great patience at the plate forcing Hornet pitchers to go deep into the count. Rawls drew two base-on-balls. 

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs continue their 12-game home stand at Buccaneer Field with two more games on Monday. The first is set for a 10:00 AM  first pitch against East Stroudsburg and the latter game coming against crosstown rival, St. Thomas University at 2:00 PM.
