Men's Hoops Upsets No. 23 Florida Southern 92-81

With a made layup at the 12:49 mark in the first half, Daniel Mortensen recorded his 1,000th point of his Barry career.

LAKEDLAND, Fla. -- The Buccaneers had four players reach double-figures in a 92-81 victory over No. 23-ranked Florida Southern on the road at the Jenkins Field House.

SUMMARY:

  • Barry trailed by as many as 12 points through the first five minutes of the game, but went into the half up five against the Mocs thanks to a 15-4 run to end the first half. The Buccaneers shot 51.6 percent compared to the Mocs' 36.1. Barry also out-rebounded FSC 23-16 in the first frame.
  • Behind 25 second half points from Tylan Birts (15) and Evan Walshe (10), the Buccaneers put up 52 points in the second half. Barry shot 55.9 percent against FSC. It is the highest shooting percentage in a game this season since January 2nd, 2019 in a 96-81 win over Embry-Riddle.  

NOTEWORTHY:

  • With a made layup at the 12:49 mark in the first half, Daniel Mortensen recorded his 1,000th point of his Barry career. 
  • Tylan Birts finished with 19 points and seven rebounds. 

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs finish the regular season with two home games in The Shores. On Wednesday, February 27th Lynn University will make their way over to the HSC. Then, the Bucs will host Saint Leo during senior night. The SSC tournament quarterfinals will take place Wednesday, March 6th, semifinals will be Saturday, March 9th followed by the finals on Sunday, March 10th.
