MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – This weekend will see both of the BarryU tennis teams open up Sunshine State Conference play with the Embry-Riddle Eagles coming down to Miami Shores to face-off with the Bucs at the Buccaneer Tennis Complex. The men will play on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 2:00 pm, while the women will take the courts the following day at 10:00 am.

MEN'S
The men's team will takes on an Eagles team that has limped out of the gate, posting a 1-3 record through their first four matches. The Eagles most recent match was a 1-4 loss against No. 8 Valdosta State, a team that Barry took care of 7-0 at the USTA Training Center in Orlando, Florida.

The Bucs have been perfect thus far this season, logging a 3-0 record including decisive victories over previously ranked No. 1 Columbus State and No. 8 Valdosta State. Barry was elevated into the top spot in the latest ITA men's tennis rankings following those two victories in Orlando.

Vivien Versier, Carlos Gomez, and Alejandro Ibañez Gallego all enter the match vs. the Eagles with undefeated records in singles and doubles play this season. The No. 2 ranked singles player in the nation, Pierre Montrieul, also comes into the weekend with momentum after defeating the No.1 ranked singles player in the nation, Columbus State's Kiranpal Pannu, in a tight contest 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (2).

WOMEN'S

The women's tennis team will look to continue their historic run on Sunday when they match up against a 1-1 Eagles team on Sunday, though Embry-riddle is coming off an encouraging 4-0 win over Valdosta state.

Much like the men, the Bucs' women's tennis team has been nothing but stellar, stomping their way to a 3-0 record in which they are a combined 20-0 in match points. The Buccaneer's returners have maintained the level of excellence we have come to expect from a team that is 60-0 over the past two-plus season's, while the newcomers have elevated the Bucs to an even higher level.

The duo of Elenore Barrere and Jil Engelmann have dominated thus far, winning their two doubles matches by a combined 12-5 score. Pairing them with the No. 1 ranked duo in the country, Verena Schmid and Zuza Maciejewska forms a near impossible challenge for opponents to overcome.
