Baseball Fends Off Falcons

Bucs post 8-6 win over Felician

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers posted an 8-6 win over the Felician Falcons at Feinbloom Field on Friday night in non-conference baseball action.

  • B1 - Andrew Rapoza singled to lead off the game for the Bucs. He went to third when Falcon pitcher Jacob Nappi's pick off throw skipped past first baseman Anthony Condito and scored on a ground ball by Justin Lamazares. | Barry 1, Felician 0
  • B4 - Derek Smolenski, Deyvid Silva and Joel Alvarez hit back-to-back-to-back doubles with one out. | Barry 3, Felician 0
  • B5 - With two outs, Richie Sobalvarro walk. Smolenski followed with an RBI double and Silva drove him home with a single to left. | Barry 5, Felician 0
  • B6 - Rapoza singled with one out. He stole second and went to third when Condito's throw sailed into left field. Lamazares delivered him with a single to left. | Barry 6, Felician 0
  • T7 - The Falcons got on the board in the seventh. Danny Healey walked with one out and stole second. One out later, he scored on a single to center by Sean Downey. After Carlos Bermudez was hit by a pitch, he and Downey worked a double steal. NOTEWORTHY:

  • Frank II Gonzalez (1-0) earned his first collegiate win. He tossed five shutout innings on two hits and struck out seven.
  • Nappi (0-1) took the loss for the Falcons. He allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks in four innings. He struck out six.
  • Hugo Casilla tossed the final 1.1 innings, allowing a run on two hits and a walk with four strike outs for his second save.
  • Rapoza, Lamazares, Smolenski, Silva, and Alvarez each had two hits for the Bucs as they rapped out 13 for the game. Rapoza, Smolenski and Silva each scored twice, while Lamazares and Silva each drove in two.
  • Mike Martinez led the Falcons with two hits.
  • The Buccaneer pitching staff totaled a whopping 17 strike outs in the game. Gonzalez struck out the side in the third, while Mike Reagan whiffed all three batters in the sixth.
