Women's Basketball Claws Out Win Over Panthers

30-point fourth quarter leads to win over Ohio Dominican

DAVIE, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers clawed their way to an 82-66 win over Ohio Dominican at the NSU Holiday Classic at the Rick Case Arena on Saturday.

SUMMARY:

  • 1Q - The first quarter was nip-and-tuck, with neither team gaining an upper hand in the first five minutes. But tied 9-9, the Bucs scored the next seven points to take a 16-9 lead on a Carly Sanders layup with 2:14 left in the period. | Barry 18, ODU 14
  • 2Q - Barry took an eight-point lead, their biggest of the half, after a 6-0 run, keyed by a couple of buckets from Emma Hergot. But the Panthers clawed back to tie the game 31-31 with 0:11 seconds to play. Ashleigh Pink hit a buzzer-beater to give Barry the lead at the half. | Barry 33, ODU 31
  • 3Q - The Panthers cut the lead to one point with 7:31 remaining and were down just two with 3:28 left. But Barry closed the period on an 8-5 run as Nerea Baena scored four points to give the Bucs a five-point lead. | Barry 52, ODU 47
  • 4Q - Barry led just 55-52 after ODU's Alexa Fisher hit a fast-break jumper with 8:58 to play. Barry then rolled off a 15-0 run, with Chiara Fusari and Harriet Swindells each scoring five points, to put the Bucs up 18, 70-52, and the Panthers never got closer than 16 the rest of the way. | Barry 82, ODU 66

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Swindells led the Bucs with 25 points, while Baena added a career-high 19 points and seven rebounds. 
  • Pink and Hergot each had 12 points. 
  • Angela Troyer led the Panthers with 17 points and Amanda Schroyer added 10.
  • The Bucs shot 52.6 percent from the floor (32-for-61), including 50 percent from three-point range (7-for-14) and 84.6 from the line (11-for-13).
  • The Panthers shot 36% from the floor (22-for-61) and just 18% from behind the arc (4-for-22).

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs are now off until after Christmas. They return the court on Jan. 2, hosting the Embry-Riddle Eagles in a Sunshine State Conference game at 5:30 pm.
